Anti-Bullying Policy

Bullying will not go away anytime soon, no matter how much we wish it. Bullies rarely pick on someone who appears self-assured. They look for easy targets instead. Here at Essex Shukokai Karate, our philosophy on tackling this issue is straightforward: empower our students to project confidence. Confidence building comes in many ways:

● By speaking up. We encourage our students to ask questions and lead them in group exercises and routines that focus on verbal assertiveness.
Through performance. Our students display courage by showcasing their skills and abilities at promotion tests and tournaments. Our tournaments and training leading up to them help our students to face the fear and do it, anyway.
From physical mastery. We teach our students how to keep themselves (and others) safe in a physical bullying situation.
Through assurance. By coaching our students not to be afraid; they learn how to handle fear and gain confidence.

We believe being a part of a team that loves and cares for itself develops the self-reliance skills people need to thrive and handle any bullying situations that arise in life.
